On June 22, 2022 we began an amazing adventure as we left Greensboro to fly out of RDU on our journey to Kenya. We were nervous and thrilled all at the same time.

None of us had been to Africa before and our kids Ryan and Alex, had never been out of the country. We were about to have the experience of a lifetime with no idea just how incredible it would be.

Why did we go? My wife Angela (Angie) had dreamed of going to Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Kenya. More than that, she loves Rhinos as animals and she fell in love with the story and information available about the last two living Northern White Rhinos in existence. The last male (Sudan) died in 2018 and these two ladies, a mom (Najin) and a daughter (Fatu) were all that was left. Angie very much wanted to meet them.

There will be more to come on them but they were the primary impetus for the 2 year journey of figuring out how to make this trip happen. We discovered that we could go stay at the conservancy where they live (Ol Pejeta) and have a much larger experience than just meeting “the girls” as we affectionately called them. Through an immersive experience we could be there a week, learn how things are done there and perhaps have multiple opportunities to meet “the girls”.

As always, God was much better to us than we deserve, we managed to pay for the trip and have about as close to a perfect trip as we could have hoped for.

My hope is that, in several posts to come, I can provide pics, slideshows or videos taking you on our journey. We have shared a lot on social media but not everyone has access to that or is “friends” with us and we want anyone who is interested to be able to enjoy the memories. I hope you will be patient with me as I learn to do this well on a new platform and I pray it’s a blessing.

It’s been some time since I initially tried to complete this post with media. It is not so easy with large files.
