Rebirth

Hello all. If you don’t know me, my name is Joshua Newton. I am a Christian, Husband, Dad, Worship Leader and Small Group Leader at my church. In 2014 I started a blog called True to the Word on a website called blogger. It was known by some and served as an outlet for me to share my faith and speak to issues of life, Christian spirituality and theology from a biblical point of view.

After a few years of writing, I became distracted by other areas of life and stopped writing. I went to nursing school and became a nurse, my children became teenagers and Covid happened. I work in a hospital Emergency room and things became much busier, even before Covid. I used to have some downtime at work that would allow for some writing. That is no longer the case so blogging fell by the wayside as a result of all of these things.

I am calling this a rebirth of the blog because I am writing again and I have grown a lot as an individual and as a child of God so what I speak to and the tone by which I speak to it will hopefully sound more grace-filled than it did at times in the past. I did try to be graceful before but I was younger in the passions of my faith and wasn’t always as gentle in laying out truth as I could have been. I long to be bold and truthful with a biblical foundation while also ensuring that people hear the grace and love of God in what I say.

I also used the term rebirth because that is a term which is at the root of Christianity. To be born again or experience “rebirth” is a biblical term coined by Jesus himself. He said, If you are not born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God”. (John 3:3)

It is my prayer that through this blog, my readers will come to know and love Jesus more and grow in godliness. I also want them to recognize that they are not hearing from a “self-righteous bible-beater”, rather you are hearing from someone who recognizes his own sinfulness and need for Jesus, and is striving to follow the same message he is sharing here. If you are already a Christian, I hope to lovingly challenge you and encourage you. I want you to grow in passion and compassion, and for that to cause you to be a more effective witness for Jesus in your day to day. I also want you to live in the joy of all that the triune God has done and is still doing in the life of every believer.

As one great bible teacher and preacher has said,

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”.

John Piper

If you are not a Christian, I hope to present the truth of the Gospel in a way that the Holy Spirit will see fit to use to change your heart, help you see the goodness of what Christ has done and to place your faith in Him for eternal life. He is worthy and your life will never be the same for the better if you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Jude 1:24
